WARNER T-90C TRANSMISSION
All Willys Jeep CJ’s beginning with the late CJ-2A came equipped with the Warner T-90C transmission. The T-90C is a heavy duty, three speed synchro-mesh type transmission with a cane type shift. It is attached to the rear face of the flywheel bell housing and is supported on a rubber insulator at the frame center cross member which also forms the rear engine support. The T-90C transmission is standard equipment in Willys Jeep models CJ-2A, CJ-3A, CJ-3B, CJ-5 and CJ-6 vehicles.
The early CJ-2A came equipped with the Warner T-90A transmission, virtually identical to the T-90C with only minor differences, mainly in the remote control shift.
The DJ-3A and two wheel drive utility trucks were equipped with a similar transmission, the Warner T-96 transmission, the differences mainly being that it is not designed to receive a transfer case for four-wheel drive.
The Willys 4-wheel-drive utility wagons and trucks with the L-4-134 and F-4-134 engines used the Warner T-90C transmission identical to that as used on the CJ’s.
The Willys 4-wheel-drive utility wagons and trucks with the L-6-226 engine used theWarner T-90-J transmission. The T-90-J transmission is virtually identical to the T-90C with a longer main drive gear, a different front bearing retainer and tapped holes on the left side of the case for a cross shaft support bracket.
The Willys FC-150 and FC-170 trucks were equipped with the Warner T-90A as was used on the early CJ-2A with a remote shift.
The Willys military Jeeps models M38 and M38A1 used the T90C transmission as used on the CJ’s but with minor differences in the shift control lever cover and the fill and drain plugs.
All Willys 4-wheel-drive vehicles are also equipped with a transfer case attached to the rear of the transmission. Refer to Group 18 for transfer case parts and information.
